Anti-corruption campaigner and former Executive Director for the Ghana Integrity Initiative, GII Mr. Vitus Azeem says the Attorney General has done very little in retrieving the GHC 51.2 million from Woyome.
The AG headed by Mrs Marietta Brew Appiah Oppong have received criticisms from some Ghanaians from backing out of the oral examination of Business man Alfred Agbesi Woyome, a business man.
Meanwhile the president of the republic, has recommended a national award for the AG for monies she has been able to retrieve for the country.
Mr Azeem reacting to his comment on “Enne Ghana”, News analysis show hosted by Yaa Titi Okrah Yangy said the amount she retrieved should be compared the money in debt before being applauded.
“One should have known the amount of money in debt and the amount she retrieved to be applauded. If it ten thousand and she retrieved ten thousand, fine but if it is a hundred thousand and she retrieved ten thousand, there should be no applauds for that”, he stated on Enne Ghana.
He added that, in the case of Woyome, she has done very less in procuring the money, in two years, that money should have been recovered, he said.
It was unfortunate for the AG and the state to discontinue with the oral examination on Woyome’s case. The AG was to cooperate with those willing to help retrieve the money instead of taking an opposite stand on what she was supposed to do.
Mr Azeem further added that, Woyome paying 4million out of the 51.2 million is nothing to write home about, what is the guarantee that he will pay more since there is even no pressure from the government, he quizzed.
He concluded that, the AG has not done enough to retrieve Woyome’s money.
