An expert in agriculture has appealed to the Nana Akuf-Addo’s government to focus on boosting the agricultural sector in other to expand the stagnant economy.
According to Mr Jones Odei, the provision of loans to farmers at lower interest rates will go a long way to motivate them in doing more and also grant them the solution to their monetary problems.
Speaking on Top FM evening news analysis program ‘Enne Ghana’ ahead of the president’s State of The Nation Address, he said the president should address these issues which are of major concern to Ghanaians.
He said the current interest rate which is about 30-40% drives away farmers to access the loans leading to the non- expansion of their farms to improve upon their yields.
He also appealed to the government to focus on agriculture marketing. This should be around where farmers will sell their produce both locally and on the foreign markets.
It should also be known to the farmers in the country and the type of products they need more for greater sales.
Mr odei added that, there should be a form of motivation to the farmers through the introduction of new technology to make the farming business attractive.
Government should take time and teach the famers how to use these modern gadgets, he concluded.
