Some Cocoa farmers in the Sefwi district of the Western Region have registered their displeasure at the meager increment in the prices of producer price of Cocoa announced by the government this crop season.
According to them, the chemicals used in spraying the Cocoa are way ahead of the Producer price being offered the COCOBOD.
The farmers led by one Paul Asare otherwise known as ‘Jesus Party” told Top FM mid-day news that they want the government to round the producer price of the commodity to 500 Ghana Cedis than the 4.75 Ghana Cedis to please farmers across the country.
He contested the price of the 2015/2016Pproducer price is not an incentive to farmers rather a disincentive to farmers.
The Public Relations Officer of COCOBOD, Noah Ameyaw on his part said the increment is more than what is offered in neighbouring Ivory Coast to Cocoa farmers.
He said this year it is only farmers who have had the prices of their commodities increased and all allied service providers have not seen any increment.
He reveled that the world price increment is five percent but the Board has increased that of Ghanaian farmers to the tune of 12 percent this crop season.
