President John Dramani Mahama will on Friday November 25 break ground for the reconstruction of the Salaga Market in the Odododioodiooo Constituency of the Greater Accra Region into an ultra-modern market.
Salaga Market project according sources, will contain an ultra-modern fish market among others.
The market which is next to Korle Dudor and is located in the heart of James Town and has a length of 0.3 kilometres, has over the years been left to deteriorate with the market women calling for its reconstruction in the area.
The market as of now is vacant and the market women have been relocated onto the main street not far from the Banana Inn Trotro terminal in the area just behind the General Post Office.
However, sources within the Assembly has said the reconstruction of the Market is long overdue and it came as a surprise when the President and his team took the decision to have it reconstructed.
The President will on the same day also fulfill the long -held aspiration of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) by inaugurating the Mudor project for the complete shut down of the Lavender Hill.
The Mudor project included the Accra Compost and Recycling Plant (ACARP), and the Zoomlion recycling and Assembling plant.
The Mayor of Accra, Mr Alfred Okoi Vanderpujie, in January, this year, assured road users and residents around the Accra beach road of the final closure of the popular “Lavender Hill” that produces a horrible stench in the area.
The new project dubbed “Mudor Faecal plant” when inaugurated would help build an efficient and technologically tested faecal and sewerage treatment plant to serve the whole of central Accra.
