The Lost Control Coordinator at the Accra East Regional ECG office, Mr. Jonathan Asante says Bishop Obinim owes them an amount of GH¢27,000.
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is therefore dragging the beleaguered General Overseer of the International God’s Way Church Bishop Daniel Obinim to court for illegal connection.
Information has it that, Obinim did the illegal connections in his guest house, television station OB TV and residence, after ECG cut power supply to him because of the non-payment of bills.
Jonathan Asante said by their calculations from March to August this year, Obinim owes GH¢217,000 from the illegal meters. Asante explained that even if Obinim pays the debt they would still have to arraign him before a special court.
“When you even pay, that is a recovery of the debt,” he said. “The crime itself and punishment comes with the law. So, paying the debt does not offset you from the criminal aspect of the issue.”
Earlier this month Bishop Daniel Obinim spent two days in police cells for allegedly defrauding a man to a tune of GHC 11.6m.
He was also in media reports for flogging two teenagers for fornication in his church.
