The presidential nominees of the Progressive People’s Party(PPP), People’s National Convention (PNC) and the National Democratic Party(NDP) may be breathing a sigh of relieve as the elections management body, Electoral Commission(EC) has accepted their corrected nomination papers for the December polls.
Now the electorate and supporters of the three political parties led by Dr Kwesi Nduom, Dr Edward Mahama and Nana Konadu Agyemang will have the opportunity to see the faces of their candidates on the ballot paper after the EC’s humiliating disqualification on October 29, 2016.
The Electoral Commission on Wednesday approved of the party’s resubmitted presidential nomination forms after reviewing it per the ruling of the Supreme Court.
The parties which have been cleared to contest the upcoming polls are hopeful no eventuality will occur as the EC goes into the balloting of positions on the ballot paper.
The three candidates were earlier disqualified together with 9 others by the Electoral Commission (EC), for inappropriately filling their nomination form.
But interestingly missing on the EC’s clearance list was All People’s Congress(APC) led by Dr Hassan Ayariga and Dr Henry Lartey of the Ghana Consolidated People’ Party (GCPP) for the December polls.
Following a legal tussle that resulted in a Supreme Court order that the EC allowed the affected candidates correct the errors and resubmit their forms, the three candidates were subsequently found to have amended the errors on their forms hence given the nod to represent their parties in the elections.
