Otiko Afisah Djaba, Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection has assured caterers of the School Feeding Program that all arrears owed them will be paid before the end of July this year.
The minister in a statement on May 15 said “The current School Feeding contracts will end this July 2017 and we can assure you that all arrears will be paid before then”.
She also apologized for the delay in payment of the arrears they inherited from the previous government.
Some school feeding caterers yesterday, Monday picketed at the gender ministry to demand payment of GHC 114 owed them by the government.
This is as a result of the act of pre-financing by the caterers before they are paid by the government.
“The government inherited an arrears of GH¢114.00m from the previous NDC administration for 75 cooking days for caterers in 2016,” the Gender Minister said.
“There is the need for us to adhere to the strict governance process for the arrears to be paid and in spite of the competing demands for public funds, the Ministry of Finance has processed the release of the arrears for 2016 and for 2017.”
Ms Otiko tasked “all partners and stakeholders of the Ghana School Feeding Program to effectively expedite action to improve on the caterer payment situation”.
In conclusion she apologized for the delay saying “Once again we apologies for any inconvenience caused,”.
