Former Boko United and Kumasi Asante Kotoko player Seidu Mohammed A.K.A Boko Pale has confirmed he sells onion at Agbogbloshi Market.
This he said is a career he took up after football career ended.
He revealed this to Nana Yaw Asare, NAYAS, host of Top FM’s sports show adding that there were too many injuries and the take home salaries were so meagre.
According to Him, he received as little as GH¢2.00 as monthly salary and Gh¢3.00 as a winning bonus during his time at Kotoko.
Mr Mohammed said, this never break them down because he knew that “In football you fail if you pay attention to the money” hence they had to play for the love of the game.
The Ex footballer who once played with the likes of Black Stars Coach Kwesi Appiah said, it wasn’t easy to get connections to the outside country like it is now, even to play with Accra Hearts of Oak and the Porcupine Warriors, Asante Kotoko were dreams that were not attained by many.
He said during their time it wasn’t easy to play outside Ghana as compared to this generation and even u have to go through a lot before you can get a call from both Hearts and Kotoko.
He said he had to resort to selling onions and sometimes rides that Okada bike for a living.
The married man with two kids said he never had the chance to play for any of the national teams with all the skills he had back in those days.
In conclusion he said football players do not play competitive football anymore which is affecting the game lovers.
