Political leaders especially those in government are believed to have all the government resources at their disposal to distribute among their relatives, some of these comments are made by citizens particularly when election is approaching.
Speaking to the former Power Minister and Member of Parliament for Pru East constituency in the Brong Ahafo Region, he said that he rejected government scholarship and sold his land to pay his children’s fees abroad.
During my tenure as the Power Minister, three of ‘my children requested to have their master’s degree program abroad, I had to sell my land to pay for the cost.
A friend said it wasn’t necessary since I am a Minister of State, I can get them government scholarship to relieve myself from spending that much.
The former Power Minister explained this to Nana Yaa Boamponsem host of the Ghana Te Sen morning show on Top FM 103.
‘ I don’t want government scholarship because i believe i could afford to pay for my wards fees while the government scholarship is meant for intelligent but less privileged citizens of the country.
There are lot of students from the deprived homes who are more intelligent than my children so, why should I use my position to deny those people from the government scholarship, some of these people even if they sell themselves for money they can’t afford to pay the fees’.
Dr kwabena Donkor lamented that, because of greed, some political, economic and social elite have decided to take the masses right to scholarship which I termed as sacrilege because this young people that are deprived of their right to education could be future leaders who could take Ghana to the next level.
At the end of it all what legacy are you leaving behind, Is it a legacy of building the Nation or robbing the nation?
I believe we came to the world with nothing and we would go with nothing that is the essence of life is all about.
