US authorities have commenced probe into National Cathedral – Ablakwa reveals

Ranking Member on the Foreign Affairs Committee of Parliament Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa insists that all evidence he has been putting out about the National Cathedral are not from any infertile imagination but from “fact”.

He says it is as a result of “painstaking work”.

Speaking on New Day on TV3 on Monday, May 8, the North Tongu Member of Parliament (MP) disclosed that US authorities have even begun investigations into the irregularities with registration of the National Cathedral of Ghana and the Bible Museum Foundation, Inc in the US.

“I can assure you that the US authorities have commenced investigations,” he revealed to host Berla Mundi.

Mr Okudzeto Ablakwa recently embarked on a trip to the United States of America to find out about the registration and operation of the National Cathedral project.

In a serialized publications, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) lawmaker accused the registered directors of the project in the US of cover-ups.

He said there was a declaration of about $63,978 in Oklahoma State, where Dr Vernon Darko, Eric Okyere Darko and Dr Paul Opoku-Mensah registered the project, as funds raised.

“This amount has never been disclosed to Ghanaians neither is it contained in any of the reports to Parliament,” the former Deputy Minister of Education said.

“Where is this money and what was it used for? When will Ghanaians know the total amount of funds raised across the US and how credible will that figure be considering the sordid levels of opacity, structural illegalities and abysmal corporate governance?”

On Monday, May 8, he added that there will be a tax-exemption ban slapped on the project as a result of the use of a supposed dead person, Jose Salgado, in its registration documents.

“There was clearly fraudulent contact,” he stressed.
