Asante Kotoko deputy captain Lord Amoah has successfully undergone surgery after suffering a serious anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, bringing an abrupt end to his season.
The right-back, who joined the Porcupine Warriors from Berekum Chelsea, has been sidelined since March after being forced off during a Ghana Premier League Matchday 23 clash against Young Apostles. Despite the setback, Kotoko went on to secure an impressive 2-0 away victory in that encounter.
Following the procedure, the club confirmed that the surgery was successful and that Amoah will now begin an intensive recovery and rehabilitation programme under the supervision of the team’s medical staff.
“Lord Amoah has undergone a successful surgery to repair his anterior cruciate ligament, an injury he sustained during our Premier League match against Young Apostles. The right-back will now begin his recovery and rehab at the club with support from our medical staff,” the club announced.
The injury is a significant blow for both player and club, with Amoah emerging as one of Kotoko’s most reliable performers this season. Once tipped for a potential Ghana call-up, the enterprising defender will now focus fully on regaining fitness.
Since arriving in the summer of 2024, Amoah has developed into a key figure for the Kumasi-based side. He made 23 appearances across all competitions this season, contributing an impressive nine goals, a remarkable return for a defender.
While his absence will be felt, Kotoko will be encouraged by the success of the surgery as they look forward to welcoming one of their standout players back to action stronger than ever.
