GCPP Presidential Candidate Dr. Dan Lartey Jnr has called on Ghana to prioritize quality education and character building, saying the country’s future will be determined by the quality of minds it nurtures today.
Speaking as Special Guest of Honour at the Ghana Basic School Awards 2026 held at GNAT Hall, Accra on Friday, 22nd May 2026, Dr. Lartey congratulated award recipients for their discipline, leadership, and academic achievement.
“Your hard work, commitment, determination, and resilience have distinguished you among your peers,” he told the students. “This recognition is not merely an award; it is a reminder that excellence is valuable, discipline matters, and the future belongs to those who prepare themselves for it.
He urged students to dream beyond their circumstances and position themselves as innovators, problem-solvers, and patriotic leaders.
“Ghana needs a generation of young people who are intelligent, innovative, disciplined, patriotic, technologically driven, and solution-oriented. The future of our country will not only depend on natural resources, but on the quality of minds we nurture today,” he said.
Dr. Lartey stressed that education is the strongest foundation for national transformation, noting that it drives leadership, economic growth, innovation, peace, and prosperity. He called for education that goes beyond academics to instill values, creativity, critical thinking, digital skills, and a sense of purpose.
He also commended teachers, parents, and school leaders for their sacrifices, describing teachers as “nation-builders.
“Behind every successful child is a teacher who believed in them, guided them, and invested in their growth. Your contributions to national development can never be underestimated,” he said.
Addressing the award winners, he cautioned against complacency and encouraged them to pursue excellence with humility, integrity, and discipline.
“Leadership begins with character, and true success is measured by the positive impact you make in the lives of others,” he said.
Dr. Lartey praised the organizers of the Ghana Basic School Awards for creating a platform that inspires hope and promotes academic excellence, expressing hope that it would grow into a movement that strengthens the future of the nation.
