A nationwide strike against rising fuel prices in Ghana has been launched by some transport operators in the West African country.
A group known as the Coalition of Private Transport Operators is leading the campaign to compel the government to reduce fuel prices.
The group said in a statement that the government has refused to heed their concerns after three consecutive meetings.
According to the leadership of the coalition, the decision holds until government does the needful.
A representative of the coalition of private transport operators, Abass Imoro said that “apart from coming out with the deduction we are asking from which we know is possible, there is nothing to change our mind.”
They have thus directed all their members to ground their vehicles and bikes until further notice.
Commercial activity across the country’s two major cities – Accra and Kumasi – could be brought to a halt following this directive.
