Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has eased concerns over Antoine Semenyo’s fitness after the forward limped off late in Ghana’s 2-1 defeat to Croatia in Philadelphia.
Ghana slipped to third in Group L following the loss, with Petar and Nikola scoring to cancel out Derrick Luckassen’s equaliser on Saturday.
Late in the match, alarm was raised when Semenyo went down inside the Croatian penalty area and appeared to be in discomfort. He received treatment on the pitch and eventually played through to the final whistle.
However, Queiroz moved quickly to calm fears after the game, insisting the issue was not serious.
“No, it’s just a knock; he will be alright,” he told reporters.
Reflecting on the defeat, Queiroz pointed to defensive lapses as the difference between the two sides.
“Croatia scored two goals, two easy goals. Much too easy the way they scored. When you score one more goal than the opponent, you have the merit to win the game.
“Simple like that. It means we make one more mistake than the opponent, and when you make one more mistake than the opponent, that is it.”
Ghana now shift focus to a Round of 32 clash against Colombia, scheduled for Saturday at Kansas City Stadium, with the 26-year-old expected to be in action.
