The Chairman of the Public Relations and Complaints Committee (PRCC) of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), Hon. Musah Ziyad has urged residents and clients to report misconduct, poor service delivery, and other grievances to the Committee for investigation and appropriate redress.
According to him, the PRCC provides an important accountability mechanism through which members of the public could raise concerns about the conduct of AMA officials and challenges encountered while accessing services from the Assembly.
Hon. Ziyad, who is also the Presiding Member of the AMA, made the call as the Assembly marked Customer Service Week 2026, being observed internationally from October 5 to 9 under the theme “The Extra Mile,” to recognize the importance of customer service and the contribution of employees who serve and support customers.
Reflecting on the celebration, the PRCC Chairman said the Committee’s mandate complemented the Assembly’s efforts to improve the experience of people who interacted with the Assembly and urged customers who encountered difficulties while accessing any AMA service to report such challenges to the Committee.
He said the Customer Service Week should also serve as a reminder to AMA employees, particularly frontline and front-desk officers, that their conduct directly affects public perception of the Assembly.
He admonished officers to remain conscious that whenever they interacted with customers or members of the public, they were representing the AMA and projecting the image of the institution.
According to him, frontline employees served as the face of the Assembly and should ensure that their attitude, communication and conduct reflected the professionalism expected of the AMA.
He said the responsibility of delivering good customer service went beyond processing payments and permits, stressing that officers must listen to concerns, provide appropriate assistance and treat customers with respect.
He pointed out that where an AMA staff member acted in a manner a resident considered inappropriate, the affected person had the right to report the official to the PRCC for the matter to be examined.
He explained that the PRCC was established under Section 26 of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), adding that under the Act, every District Assembly was expected to have a Public Relations and Complaints Committee chaired by the Presiding Member.
The said Committee, comprises the Presiding Member as chairperson, five Assembly Members elected by the Assembly, and representatives of the National Commission for Civic Education, Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice, Information Services Department and civil society organizations within the district.
He emphasized that the PRCC served not only as a complaint’s mechanism but also as a platform for promoting transparency, accountability, fairness and improved relations between the Assembly and members of the public.
Section 27 of Act 936 mandates the Committee to educate the public on the activities of the Assembly, promote transparency, probity and accountability, investigate complaints concerning the conduct of Assembly officials and employees, and investigate allegations of administrative injustice, abuse or misuse of office and violations of fundamental human rights.
