The Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga, has condemned the latest shooting of some Immigration Officers in Bawku in the Upper East region.

He says the shooting incident is reprehensible and must not happen again.

“I condemn in very strong terms the shooting, injuring and killing of some members of the security agencies in Bawku on Monday, 3 April 2023,” the Minister said in a statement issued following the incident.

This comes after some unidentified assailants shot at three immigration officers in Bawku, which led to the death of 42-year-old Philip Motey, who died from gunshot wounds.

The other two are fighting for their lives at the Bawku Presbyterian Hospital.

The three were said to be travelling from Bawku to Missiga when shooters fired several rounds at their vehicle on Monday, 3 April 2023.

Reacting to the development, Mr Ayariga urged the nation’s security apparatus to speed up the processes to ensure lasting peace in Bawku, which has seen violent clashes over the past few years.

“I condemn in very strong terms the shooting, injuring and killing of some members of the security agencies in Bawku on Monday, 3 April 2023.”

“This is most reprehensible and should not be repeated again. An investigation into the matter must be conducted, and the perpetrators brought to book.”

“Let me, on behalf of the people of Bawku, express our sincere condolences to the families of the deceased security personnel and extend our prayers to the wounded. I urge the government to be proactive in advancing a lasting peace process in Bawku,” parts of the statement read.
