Rosemond Brown (Akuapem Poloo) has filed a notice of appeal with the Court of Appeal, appealing the High Court’s dismissal of her appeal regarding her 90-day jail sentence for sharing a naked photo of herself and her kid on social media.
On Wednesday, December 1, 2021, the Accra high court ordered Akuapem Poloo to return to the Nsawam Medium Security Prison to finish her 90-day sentence
Why did the campaigners for #FreeAkuapemPoloo abandon her?
The socialite’s petition to overturn a 90-day jail sentence given out by an Accra Circuit Court in April 2021 for the publication of a naked photo with her son was dismissed by the high court.
Justice Ruby Aryeetey, the presiding judge, maintained the circuit court’s sentence, adding that it is excessive and hence would not be overturned.
On each count, she was sentenced to 90 days in prison, although the court ordered that the sentences be served consecutively.
This means she would only be imprisoned for 90 days.
On Monday, December 6, 2021, almost a week after the high court ruling, Akuapem Poloo’s lawyers, led by Mr Andrew Kudzo Vortia, filed a notice of appeal.
“Please take notice that the convict/appellant/appellant herein, being aggrieved by the judgment of the High Court Criminal Division (1)Accra, Her Ladyship Ruby Aryeetey dated 1 December 2021 dismissing the appellant’s appeal against the conviction and sentenced to 90 days imprisonment imposed on the appellant on each count to run concurrently by Her Honour Mrs Christiana Cann dated April 16, 2021
