Residents of Choker in the Ablekuma South Constituency, have commended the management of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) for bringing registration exercises closer to their doorsteps.

This honour they indicated, has relieved them from traveling a long distance to the various offices of NHIS before registering to get the Card.

The commendation came to light at a series of interviews conducted with a section of the people of Choker during a registration exercise carried out by the management of NHIS.

The majority of the people showed an interest in the registration exercise and were enrolled in the Scheme.
The registration exercise forms part of the weeklong celebration of the NHIS on the theme, “Expanding Access to Health Care Using the Ghana Card”.

Some residents expressed their gratefulness after successfully getting their cards and entreated all those who have not yet enrolled on the scheme to take advantage of the ongoing exercise to register to get the card.

The District Manager of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) of Ashiedu Keteke, Mr. Christian Asante in an interview, expressed his gratitude to the people of Chorkor for their massive attendance towards the registration exercise to enroll onto the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

Mr. Asante disclosed that the government in its quest to address the health needs of children has added childhood cancers and family planning services to the scheme.

The childhood cancers he hinted at comprise kidney cancer, leukemia, solid tumor, and cancer of the eye.
The NHIS Card he mentioned, is now linked with the Ghana card saying, holders of both cards can present to any health center across the country.
