A former New Patriotic Party parliamentary candidate for Klottey Korle, Valentino Nii Noi Nortey, has been remanded in custody in Pennsylvania after an alleged domestic assault involving his wife.
Police in Lower Paxton Township said the 41-year-old was arrested on Saturday morning, January 17, 2026, following an emergency call to a residence on Mayfair Drive in Harrisburg at about 10 a.m.
Officers who responded to the scene found a woman with multiple stab wounds. First responders transported her to a nearby hospital for treatment.
In an update issued on Monday, police confirmed that the victim is in stable condition. Authorities stressed that the incident was confined to the home and posed no risk to the public.
Investigators remained at the property for several hours, collecting evidence as part of the ongoing investigation.
Mr Nortey, who gained national attention in Ghana during the 2016 and 2020 elections, is facing serious criminal charges in the United States. A judge denied him bail, citing the severity of the case.
He is currently being held at the Dauphin County Prison and is expected to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on January 26, 2026.
The arrest has drawn strong reactions within NPP circles in Ghana and among party supporters abroad.
While the party has yet to issue an official response, the development comes at a sensitive time as internal preparations begin toward the 2028 flagbearer contest.
