Former Sports Minister Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye has accused the Ghana Football Association (GFA) of prioritising the Black Stars at the expense of domestic football development.

Speaking on Akoma FM, Vanderpuye questioned the direction of the current administration, arguing that its focus on the senior national team was undermining the growth of domestic clubs.

“The current football association is the Ghana Black Stars association and not the Ghana Football Association,” he said.

The former minister also expressed concern about the future of traditional Ghanaian clubs Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak, warning that both could struggle to win the Ghana Premier League title over the next five years if the current situation persists.

“The current football system is affecting clubs like Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak. If we fail to address these issues, there is no way these two clubs will win the league in the next five years,” he added.

Vanderpuye’s comments come amid renewed debate over the GFA’s priorities and calls for greater investment in domestic football.

Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak are among Ghana’s most successful and widely supported clubs. However, Vanderpuye believes the current football structure is making it increasingly difficult for the two sides to compete for the league title.

His remarks have added to discussions about how the GFA can balance the demands of the Black Stars with the development of domestic clubs and the broader football ecosystem in Ghana.
