Mr. Kwadwo Atta Apeakorang, the president and founder of the non-governmental organization Save The Nation for Future Leaders, has praised the Ghana Police Service, under the leadership of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, for their outstanding display of professionalism during the National Democratic Congress (NDC)s recent “Enough is Enough” nationwide protest. Held on 17th September 2024, the demonstration called for a forensic audit of the Ghana Electoral Commission’s voter register.
Mr. Apeakorang also commended the NDC for organizing a peaceful protest amidst a politically charged year. He lauded the NDC’s leadership and supporters for conducting themselves responsibly throughout the demonstration, which contributed to maintaining a peaceful atmosphere during a crucial time in the nation’s political landscape.
He noted that the NDC’s demonstration, which saw thousands of participants peacefully demand transparency in the electoral process, showcased the power of non-violent civic engagement in a democratic society. The protest was marked by an absence of violent incidents, a testament to both the organizers’ efforts and the Ghana Police Service’s effective coordination and professionalism.
In addition to commending the NDC, Mr. Apeakorang urged all other political parties to follow the NDC’s example by promoting peace and encouraging their supporters to engage in lawful, peaceful protests. As Ghana approaches a significant electoral period, he emphasized that maintaining peace and unity is essential for the nation’s stability and democratic progress.
Reflecting on his previous criticisms of the IGP, Mr. Apeakorang reiterated that his critiques were aimed at promoting positive change within the police service. He expressed satisfaction that the service has made considerable strides under Dr. Dampare’s leadership, encouraging them to continue their good work in ensuring public safety and maintaining order during political activities.
In conclusion, Mr. Apeakorang called on political parties to embrace peaceful practices, not only during protests but in all political engagements, to ensure a fair and harmonious electoral process. He reaffirmed his organization’s commitment to advocating for good governance and supporting institutions that uphold the rule of law and contribute to national development.
