Police in Asankrangwa has reportedly arrested five suspects in connection with an armed robbery attack on a spare parts shop at place known as Malta.
The incident occurred on March 12, 2026, at about 6:30 p.m., when six armed men reportedly attacked Chen Zchao, a Chinese national, and his younger brother, Yao Chan, at their shop.
The assailants, armed with pump-action guns and cutlasses, made away with three mobile phones and an amount of GHS200,000 before fleeing in a black Toyota Voxy vehicle towards Sefwi Bekwai.
The robbery was reported to Police at about 7:20 p.m., prompting a swift response.
A coordinated operation involving the Asankrangwa night patrol team and officers at the Sumpre Police Checkpoint led to the interception of the suspect vehicle around 8:00 p.m.
Four suspects—Issaku Ibrahim, 42; Fatau Ali, 25; Yahaya Mumuni, 26; and Emmanuel Antwi, 22—were arrested after attempting to flee upon being stopped.
A search conducted on the vehicle led to the retrieval of GHS198,200 in cash, three mobile phones, two pump-action guns loaded with 14 AA cartridges, a Bruni Mod 84 pistol with eight rounds of ammunition, a machete, an amulet, and two CCTV decoders.
