Eight people have been arrested by the Bono Regional Police Command for engaging in illegal gold mining activities without a license at Wewe, a village near Banda in the Bono Region.
The suspects have been identified as Sayuba Ziba, Kienu Dobou, Osman Tunabu, Nana Alhassan, Wadrago Abdulai, Aliu Sali, Ibrahim Wulba, and Alhassan Imoro, who are all foreign nationals from Nigeria, Ivory Coast, and Gambia.
The Bono Regional Police Command through a statement on Friday, October 3, 2025 revealed that the arrests were made following months of surveillance operations on the groups illegal.
All the suspects were picked up on Thursday, October 2, while they were seriously engaging in their illegal acts.
Items retrieved from the galamsayers included GH¢23,450 in cash, raw gold, gold dust, mercury, and a lighter used in gold processing.
All suspects have been kept in custody and are waiting for investigations to begin into the matter.
