The Ayawaso North Municipal Assembly has implemwnted initiatives to curb youth involvement in illicit substance abuse within the municipality by dismantling ghettos that foster criminal activities, to provide these young individuals with meaningful livelihood opportunities.

To achieve this, the Assembly has heightened security measures to facilitate unhindered movement among residents, particularly during nighttime.

Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Haruna Mohammed Awal, revealed that 450 streetlights have been installed to date, with plans to install additional ones to mitigate criminal activities and enhance visibility.

He stressed that the Assembly will not condone any form of criminal behavior and intends to collaborate with MUSEC to decrease youth involvement in substance abuse.
Furthermore, the Assembly is working to enhance sanitation and health standards in the municipality through a mandatory weekly cleanup exercise aimed at preventing cholera and other waterborne diseases.

The Assembly is also prioritizing the upgrading of educational facilities, improvement of inner roads and drainage systems, enhancement of street lighting, and reinforcement of sanitation and waste management systems.

The MCE called upon residents to actively participate in weekly and monthly cleanup initiatives and support social protection interventions for the aged, persons with disabilities, and vulnerable households, as effectively implemented by the Assembly, in line with he initiatives highlighted during Ghana’s 69th Independence Day celebration at the Accra Girls School.
