The Cape Coast Stadium was engulfed in darkness on Saturday, March 9, 2024, during the highly anticipated match between the Black Princesses of Ghana and Ethiopia in the ongoing Africa Games. The sudden power outage which lasted for about 20 minutes cast a shadow over the thrilling encounter and left spectators and players bewildered.

The match, which had been brimming with excitement as both teams showcased their skill and determination on the field, was abruptly halted as the lights flickered and eventually went out completely. With the stadium plunged into darkness, the atmosphere shifted from one of anticipation to confusion and frustration.

Fans, who had gathered in large numbers to support their respective teams, were left disappointed as they struggled to make sense of the situation. Players from both sides were seen milling around the pitch, unsure of what was happening and awaiting further instructions from the officials.

Officials scrambled to address the situation, with stadium staff working tirelessly to restore power and bring the lights back on. However, minutes turned into what seemed like an eternity as the blackout persisted, further delaying the match’s resumption.

The unexpected power outage, lasting about 20 minutes, has sparked concerns regarding the infrastructure and readiness of the Cape Coast Stadium, a venue renowned for hosting various sporting events. Spectators, bewildered by the occurrence during the match, expressed their frustrations on social media platforms.

Media General’s Sports Journalist, Owuraku Ampofo posted a video of the incident on his Twitter handle.

“Lights out at the Cape Coast stadium during the Black Princesses vs Ethiopia game tonight,” he posted, eliciting several reactions.
