The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has made funding available to the Black Challenge, Ghana’s National Amputee Football Team, under its sponsorship agreement with Gold Fields Ghana Limited as preparations for the 2026 Amputee Football World Cup intensify.
Gold Fields Ghana pledged US$5 million over two years to support Ghanaian football after becoming an Official Partner of the GFA. The strategic partnership was unveiled at the company’s headquarters in Accra on May 8, 2026.
Of that total, US$500,000 has been designated for the Black Challenge over the two-year period. The allocation followed negotiations led by GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku and will help meet the team’s main preparation costs.
The funding will cover accommodation, feeding, flight tickets and allowances as Ghana prepares for the global tournament.
To coordinate the sponsorship’s implementation, the GFA has held discussions with the Ghana Paralympic Committee and other stakeholders involved in amputee football. The talks have focused on the funding arrangements and the team’s preparations for the competition.
GFA General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo has visited training sessions several times to meet the players and assess their progress. The Association has also supplied more than 30 footballs and training cones for use in the team’s programme.
At his most recent visit, Harrison Addo told the players they would be provided with official national team jerseys bearing their names. They will also receive camp wear and training kits featuring Gold Fields Ghana sponsorship branding.
The GFA has paid the team’s visa fees for travel to Turkey and Mexico, while also addressing its medical requirements. Discussions are under way to provide two additional physiotherapists and a doctor during the preparation period.
The Association is working with the Ministry of Sports and Recreation and the Ghana Paralympic Committee to complete the team’s travel arrangements for the World Cup.
The Gold Fields Ghana agreement extends beyond the Black Challenge. Its wider sponsorship package also supports the Black Stars, the Black Queens and the Women’s Premier League.
The GFA thanked Sampson Deen, President of the Paralympic Committee, and his team, along with those who have supported the Black Challenge. It also called for further national backing for the team.
The Association said it remained committed to working with its partners and stakeholders to provide the financial, logistical and technical support required for the Black Challenge to prepare effectively and represent Ghana at the 2026 Amputee Football World Cup.
