Grammy award winning American rapper, Chance The Rapper has shared the change in perception and thoughts his trips to Ghana has brought to him since he took the first flight to visit the motherland.
In a post on his socials seen by TopFMOnline, Chance The rapper said his visits to the burial site of Ghana’s first president Dr. Kwame Nkrumah opened his eye to many things that had eluded him from a very young age as a Black person living on another man’s land.
He adds that his children are now aware of their ancestral roots because he brought home a portrait of Kwame Nkrumah, just to teach his children about the man described as the greatest Pan Africanist.
“What I witnessed changed my way of thinking, my missions and my identity. Each of the 7 trips I’ve taken to Ghana since my first trip, I make time to pay my respects to the great Pan Africanist Kwame Nkrumah. This trip I bought a painting of him and brought it home to my children.”
“We had a long conversation about him. I believe I learned a lot of things late in life that would have helped me understand my experiences and the world around me. I’m not worried about these girls though, they know where they come from,” he shared along with a post giving some background history about Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and Ghana’s struggles for independence.
