The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr George Akuffo Dampare has assured that the security services will do their best to ensure that the Kumawu By-elections will be one of the most peaceful elections witnessed in the country.
According to the IGP, that the Police Service will not allow any group of persons to foment trouble before, during and after the much anticipated by-elections in the Kumawu Constituency.
Dr Goerge Akuffo Dampare sized this when he called on the paramount chief for Kumawu traditional area, Barima Sarfo Tweneboa Kodua, on Sunday May 21, 2023 ahead of the elections.
“I’ve here for two reasons, first to greet my chief and secondly to oversea the conduct of a peaceful by-election here in Kumawu “.
” I have already engaged my men and some stakeholders in the elections and have appealed to them to always be talking to the youth in the communities not to allow themselves to be used to foment violence during the elections because if they do the long arm of the law will catch up with them,” he said.
He noted that, every individual within the Kumawu enclave will be protected before and after the elections.
In his welcome address the paramount chief for Kumawu, Barima Sarfo Tweneboa Kodua commended the IGP for coming to Kumawu in person to ensure a peaceful elections.
He was full of praise for the IGP cited some of the recent interventions by the Ghana Police Service as innovative.
“I just saw the Ghana Police Television and on the TV i saw some police officers interacting with the public through thier medium”.
“This is what i will describe as bringing police to the door steps of the ordinarily Ghanaian and i am happy about that”
The cheif also assured that, the traditional council will support the police service in their own way to ensure a peaceful by-election.
