Aspiring flagbearer hopeful of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Kwabena Duffuor, has said the governing New Patriotic Party has hurt him personally than any political party by destroying his businesses, hence, he would not take money from them to hurt the NDC.

Dr Duffuor’s remarks follow claims by his opponents that he has been sponsored by the NPP to contest the NDC flagbearer race to hurt the NDC.

Speaking to party’s delegates in Adansi Asokwa Constituency in the Ashanti region as part of his campaign tour in the region, the former Bank of Ghana governor said he is a founding member of the NDC and also seeking to build the party and not to destroy it.

“I funded the NDC, so, I’m NDC and nothing can change my love for NDC. The NPP destroyed my banks and tried to collapse every business under my control. I want to tell you that the NPP has hurt me more than any other member of the party. The NPP can never use me to destroy the NDC. My main aid is to return NDC to power to make Ghana better,” Dr. Duffuor reiterated.

Dr Duffuor’s uniBank was collapsed by the Akufo-Addo administration in 2018.

The bank was placed under administration on 20 March 2018 during the banking crises and subsequently placed in receivership and consolidated into the Consolidated Bank Ghana Limited with four other failed banks.

At the time of its collapse, the government claimed the bank was insolvent and that Directors and shareholders of the bank engaged in illegal transactions by giving out unlawful loans and advances as well as illegal acquisition of assets in the name of related interests.

Dr Duffuor is urging NDC delegates to elect him flagbearer in the May 13th congress.
