Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Chairman Dr Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe has criticized the decision to keep Otto Addo in charge of the Black Stars, insisting the coach should have been dismissed much earlier.

Addo, who was reappointed in March 2024, has since been relieved of his duties following a string of disappointing results in the build-up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Ghana suffered a 5-1 defeat to Austria in Vienna before falling 2-1 to Germany in Stuttgart during the March international window.

Speaking on Kessben FM, the Hearts of Oak board member did not hold back in his assessment of the former Borussia Dortmund talent coach, describing his tenure as underwhelming.

“Otto Addo should have been sacked long ago; he has been a disappointment,” he added.

Dr Tamakloe also raised concerns about Addo’s approach to player selection, particularly his reluctance to rely more on home-based talent.

He revealed that his advice for the coach to scout players across the country was not taken.

“I advised Otto Addo to travel across the country to scout local players, but he asked if I wanted him to become a laughingstock. Today, the situation speaks for itself.”

The GFA is now expected to name a new head coach within the next two weeks as the team continues its preparations for the World Cup.

The Black Stars will regroup in May and June for final friendly matches against Mexico and Wales, before heading into the tournament.

Ghana has been drawn in Group L, where they will face Panama, England, and Croatia when the competition kicks off on June 11 across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
