Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister, has revealed that he cannot simply sack people from their positions because they have been implicated in galamsey issues.
His comments comes after some district assemblies were captured in a Joy News Hotline Documentary dubbed “galamsey tax” system.
According to Dr. Frank Amoakohene, he’s had reports of the issue and have instructed for investigations to be conducted to bring out all the facts.
“As Regional Minister, the issues have come to my attention. Yesterday, together with the Local Government Minister, we were on a committee to listen to all sides and delve into the matter so we can come out with the facts and clear conclusions,” he said while speaking at the JoyNews National Dialogue on Illegal Mining.
He also added that the all investigations will be made available to the public after every process is concluded
“Yes, investigations are underway, and once the reports, findings and recommendations are ready, they will be communicated. Clearly, the principles of natural justice must apply”
“The mere fact that allegations are made against someone does not mean they should be sacked or interdicted. There must be evidence and a proper case established.”
“Once wrongdoing is established against any official, I am sure it will not require any calls for action to be taken,” the Minister said.
