Ghanaian Highlife music icon, Rex Omar has made a clarion call for veteran sound engineer and record producer, Zapp Mallet to be celebrated for his works and contribution to the music industry.
Describing Zapp Mallet as Ghana’s version of Quincy Jones, Rex Omar who was the former Chairman for the Ghana Music Rights Association (GHAMRO) called Zapp an accomplished musician who deserves to be celebrated for his contributions.
“Zapp is like the Quincy Jones’s in the US. What makes him exceptional is that, 1. Zapp is an accomplished musician 2. A great singer 3.. A multi-instrumentalist, a Composer, a Producer and a Performer who worked passionately just for the love of the game. Zapp needs to be honored and I pray he lives longer for some of us to ensure that,” Rex Omar said.
Zapp Mallet is known to have laid the foundational bricks for Hiplife veteran Reggie Rockstones and also played a pivotal role in the creation of the Hiplife music genre.
