At least 2 people have been reported dead with 5 others sustaining injuries following an accident between a MAN Diesel tanker with registration number GN 4550-19 and a Sprinter bus (AW 732-13).
A statement filled by the Eastern Regional department of the GNFS on Sunday, December, 21, 2025 read:
“2 persons died, 5 sustained injuries, while 2 others escaped unhurt in a head-on collision on Thursday, 18th December 2025, involving a MAN Diesel tanker (GN 4550-19) with 2 occupants and a Sprinter bus (AW 732-13) carrying 8 occupants at Enyiresi on the Accra–Kumasi Highway.
GNFS Anyinam Fire Station responded promptly after receiving a distress call at 2038hrs and arrived at the scene at 2045hrs, leading effective rescue and accident management operations.
1 female was retrieved deceased at the scene and handed over to the Police, while another victim later died at Enyiresi Government Hospital. The injured persons received medical care at Enyiresi Government Hospital and Helpline Hospital, Anyinam, with one victim referred to St. Joseph Hospital, Koforidua.
Bunso Fire Station reinforced the operation at 2111hrs. The incident is believed to have occurred after a tyre detachment caused the tanker to lose control and collide with the Sprinter bus, which ended up beneath the tanker.
The Sprinter bus was completely destroyed, while the tanker sustained partial front axle damage. The operation was successfully concluded at 0043hrs, with crews returning to base at 0050hrs. The tanker driver and mate escaped unhurt and are assisting Police investigations.
