The Electoral Commission (EC) will hold the Ayawaso East Constituency parliamentary by-election on Tuesday, March 3, 2026.

he decision follows the unfortunate death of the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ayawaso East Constituency, Mahama Naser Toure, which has rendered the seat vacant.

A statement signed and issued by the Deputy Chairman of the EC in charge of operations said it was also in accordance with Article 112 (5) of the Constitution, as amended.

Nomination/ Filing fees

The statement said the commission has also opened nominations for prospective candidates to file and contest the vacant parliamentary seat in the Greater Accra Region.

It said nominations would be received at the Ayawaso East Municipal office of the commission, from Monday, February 9, 2026, to Wednesday, February 11, 2026, between the hours of 9 am to 12 pm and 2 pm to 5 pm on each day.

The commission also announced a filing fee of GH¢10,000.00 per candidate. However, the filing fee for female candidates and persons with disabilities (PWDs) is GH¢7,500.00.

Modalities

“All completed nomination forms are expected to be delivered in quadruplicate,” it said.

“Interested candidates are required to download the nomination forms from the Commission’s website (www.ec.gov.gh/forms) from Friday, January 16, 2026, to Wednesday, February 11, 2026,” the statement said.

“A prospective candidate may personally deliver or cause to be delivered on his/her behalf, by either the proposer or seconder of his/her nomination, the completed nomination forms to the returning officer at the Ayawaso East Municipal office of the commission on the dates and times stated above,” it said.

It added that the nomination forms for each candidate shall be witnessed by the signature or mark of two registered voters as proposer and seconder, and supported by 18 other registered voters in the constituency as assenting to the nominations.

The statement said the nomination forms shall also be endorsed with the candidate’s consent to the nomination.

“A candidate shall at the time of submitting his/her completed nomination forms, provide the returning officer with two copies of a recent postcard (bust-sized) photograph against a red background, showing his/her full face and ears,” it said.

The EC urged the public to be guided accordingly.
