Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo has directed all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to fix damaged streetlights within their jurisdictions.
The Minister gave the MMDCEs a two-week ultimatum to repair all damage streetlights after revealing that she has secured about 3,000street lights from the Ministry of Energy to be distributed with each MMDA getting 100 streetlights.
“Let me be clear—you have two weeks only to ensure that every single one of those lights is fixed. No excuses, no delays. I will personally monitor this directive. Any chief executive who fails to comply will be exposed and reported. If you cannot manage these basic tasks, then you have no business occupying that office,” she said while briefing the media in Accra on Thursday, August 28, 2025.
Ms. Akweley Ocloo further stated that most of the appointees are sleeping on the job and simply enjoying the benefits of their positions without delivering on the mandate of the President invested in them.
“Excuses are nothing but an embarrassment to the people we serve. Leadership is not about sitting in offices and enjoying the perks of your position; it’s about delivering results. Right now, many of you are simply sleeping on your jobs,” the Minister said emphasizing the importance of streetlights to the 24-hour economy.
