Somalia has requested permission to use the Accra Sports Stadium as its home venue for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers after being left without a CAF-approved stadium.
The Somali Football Federation (SFF) has written to Ghana’s National Sports Authority (NSA) seeking approval to stage its home qualifying matches at the renovated venue.
The request comes after the Accra Sports Stadium regained its place on the Confederation of African Football’s list of approved international venues following months of renovation work. The stadium is currently the only venue in Ghana certified to host CAF and FIFA-sanctioned matches.
Somalia, who have been drawn in Group C alongside Ghana, Ivory Coast and Gabon, are due to begin their qualifying campaign away to Gambia on 25 September.
The Ocean Stars are then scheduled to host Ivory Coast four days later, with Accra emerging as a potential venue should Ghana grant the request.
Ghana are also expected to play their home qualifiers at the Accra Sports Stadium, raising the prospect of the venue hosting matches involving two teams from the same qualifying group.
The top two sides from each group will secure qualification for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda from 19 June to 17 July 2027.
