UK-Ghanaian rapper, Stormzy has been awarded with an honorary degree from the University of Cambridge for his contributions to help black students get higher levels of education.
Stormzy whose real name is whose is Michael Ebenazer Kwadjo Omari Owuo in 2018 launched the Stormzy Scholarship which provides funds for black UK students attain higher level of learning.
“Stormzy’s scholarship programme has had a transformative impact and we are proud to recognise his work with this degree.”, Prof Deborah Prentice, vice-chancellor at the university, said while applauding the transformative programme.
The 31-year-old award winning rapper was among eight figures who were honored with a doctorate degree.
Actor Sir Simon Russell Beale and US political activist, Professor Angela Davis were awarded a Doctorate in Letters.
Other recipients are Lady Arden of Heswall, former justice of the UK Supreme Court was honoured with a Doctorate in Law, as well Olympic gold medallist, Dame Katherine Grainger, also awarded Doctorate in Law.

Since its was launched in 2018, the Stormzy Scholarships Programme has helped 56 undergraduates with full tuition and maintenance support, with support from the Merky Foundation and HSBC UK.
