The Palestinian Ambassador to Ghana, HE Abdulfatah Ahmed Khalil Alasattari, has strongly condemned Israel’s actions in Gaza and the West Bank, citing the devastating impact on the Palestinian people. According to the Ambassador, since October 7, Israel has killed 62,966 Palestinians, including 25,000 children and 12,000 women, with 88% of those killed being civilians.
The Ambassador highlighted the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, where 195,266 people have been injured, many of whom have lost limbs or eyesight. He also noted that over 10,000 people are trapped under buildings, and 247 journalists have been killed, with the UN publishing a report stating that there is no safe place in Gaza.
The Ambassador emphasized that Israel’s blockade of food and medicine has led to starvation in Gaza, with 320 Palestinians dying in the past two months due to lack of food, including 121 children. He condemned Israel’s actions, stating that they are treating Palestinians like animals, not humans.
The Ambassador thanked the African Union, Ghana, and other countries for their support of Palestine, as well as the Pope’s recent call for protection of Palestinian civilians and citizens. He also acknowledged the EU’s stance on the issue.
The Ambassador provided historical context to the conflict, tracing it back to 1948 when Israel displaced Palestinians from their homes and villages. He noted that Israel’s occupation of Palestinian land has continued since 1967, with ongoing violence and destruction of villages and homes.
The Ambassador’s words serve as a call to action, highlighting the need for international attention and intervention to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the West Bank. His testimony provides a powerful account of the impact of the conflict on the Palestinian people and underscores the importance of working towards a peaceful resolution.
